Galentines Is for Gal Pals: Celebrating Valentine's Day with Your BFFs, Cville Edition

Charlottesville is an awesome city to live in, especially around Valentine’s day. As a city that celebrates love and companionship, Galentine’s day has become a big celebration around this time of year to celebrate friendship amongst women. It’s easy to send flowers for Galentine’s Day, and the city has a lot of cool activities to pair with a beautiful bouquet.

Event types include special winery events, popup shops, and films! We’ve put together a brief list below of what’s happening in Cville this Valentine’s Day - for you and your gal pals.

Galentine with Your Girls at local Cville Vineyards

Two vineyards have put together some ways to celebrate. Thatch Winery has a fun event planned with Oodaloop on February 10th, 2020, and Crosskeys Vineyards has a day of dessert decorating that includes a flight of wine and a mix of truffles, cookies, and brownies to decorate. Also, small plates will be served during the decorating session. The event at Crosskeys starts on Thursday the 13th at 5 pm.

Shopping for Local Gifts and Crafts, the Old Metropolitan Hall

On the 10th, Craft Cville will bring a popup shop to the Old Metropolitan Hall downtown to showcase local goods. According to Jacqui Slusher, the shop and the Galentine’s event is meant to empower women.
"It's not always about men or women or who's making what, but really pushing supporting women, supporting makers," said Slusher. "Girls supporting girls: that whole really awesome vibe of us just getting together and showing all the wonderful things we have to offer."

Film Fest for the Ladies

Alamo Draft House is hosting a Galentine’s event on the 13th as well. You get to see a screening of Parks and Recreation episodes that are specific to Galentine’s day. Prior to the screening, there’s a Galentine’s happy hour at The Highball with drink specials.

  • 5:30pm - Galentine's Day Happy Hour in The Highball

  • 7:00pm / 7:30pm - Screening of PARKS AND RECREATION in Alamo South Lamar Theater

“We need to remember what’s important in life: friends, waffles, work. Or waffles, friends, work. Doesn’t matter, but work is third.”

UVA Students Are Included: Crafts at the University

For UVA students: Learn to make Valentines out of recycled materials at UVA campus outside of Newcomb Hall! It starts at 10:45 am and ends at 12:30 pm, and you’ll have your g/valentine’s day greetings ready to go in a sustainable manner.

When in doubt, flowers make a great Galentine’s day gift. Surprise your ladies – everyone loves flowers. Check out our Charlottesville Valentine’s Day flower selection online or call for a special order.
